Clerihews

A ‘Clerihew’ is a silly and funny four line poem. The name comes from Edmund Clerihew Bentley, who pioneered this form. These poems are about a specific person or a character and the second line has to rhyme with the subject’s name. The scheme is AABB. Here, I have written three of them on AliceUncle Scrooge and Misha, the bear of the ‘Misha’ magazine that was published from USSR in early 90s and was quite popular. I was crazy about it! This is my first attempt in writing Clerihews; I hope you will like them! Suggestions and comments are most welcome!

There was once a dreamy girl called Alice
Whose heart was pure and free of malice
She saw a rabbit holding a watch in hand
Chased him and entered the wonderland!

Too stingy was the rich Uncle Scrooge
He wore specs and his wealth was huge
And loved his money more than his life
That’s why he stayed single, sans a wife!

There was once a bear named Misha
He was cute and lived in frosty Russia
But he gathered quite an enviable fame
A hit magazine came out in his name!
