Goodnight!

It is said that our sleep says much about us and often we come across articles or weblogs that analyze our sleeping patterns, style etc to indicate our personality types. I have often come across people with strange pre-sleep habits, like one classmate could sleep only after having a glassful of dark coffee. While most of us take coffee to concentrate, she did the very opposite. Another person could not go to bed without working out. While most people workout in the morning, not many are there who exercise right before going to bed. A woman I know has to gossip about every darn person otherwise she can’t get sleep comfortably. One of my classmates used to forward sms jokes to almost entire class before sleeping and yet another used to brood and lament for atleast an hour before she could get some sleep. One man I know can sleep only after watching a Bollywood movie; he can’t go to bed if he fails to catch up on his daily cinema dose. Some people take herbs like trifala, brahmi etc before sleep.

However, I feel if one is a bit too particular in such things and if petty disturbances hold the power to snatch his good night’s sleep away, it is not a very good thing as this can pose problems while travelling or when one is staying at some other place.

I pray and often take some tea before dozing off. Btw, what are your pre-sleep habits?

  3. That picture is so cute! Those are some funny habits! I need to read or watch a show or movie before falling asleep, otherwise I cannot.

  4. Cute photo!! Some of the pre-sleeping habits you talked about here surprised me, but yeah people are different and so are their habits.

Well, in my case I listen to music on low volume as I drift into sleep . I've got a very soothing playlist on my phone, I named it as "Peaceful Sleep" - I keep changing songs in the playlist to suit my mood. But all the songs are slow peaceful melodies - songs which bring sleep instantly for a tired mind.

  6. I don’t take or go behind anything for sleeping, but I catch deep slumber only at early morning like almost. I don’t have problem with sleep, perhaps i don’t take things or think serious.

  7. I think a good dose of hard toil in the day is a good sleeping potion. Also, refreshing is to have a glass of milk before sleeping and reading your favourite, book, magazine or even daily before retiring to bed is very relaxing.

    1. Hi vanderloost

Thanks is so true, I agree with you. having milk before sleeping is slightly fattening so I avoid it. yes, chanting is also relaxing.

  8. Nothing.. And I am so glad, realizing the fact that I can go to sleep like normal.. without any pre-defined routine thing to do.. Yes, reading a book before bed is warmth and peace, but not compulsorily..

    How about you ?

    Cheers

    1. Hi Geets

It is very good habit I feel. Reading is very relaxing. I often take some tea before retiring to bed or sometimes chant one mala (108) of any mantra (or simply om) to get tight sleep :)

  9. Even I do not have any bedtime ritual except for the time but if I have worked by body a little hard then my sleep is extra sweet.

As you said, if one cannot keep up with the rituals then sleep may allude us.
