Bits & Pieces 2

LOL- Gappa!

I am a huge fan of gol-gappa but not when they are presented like some exotic French dish and are priced insanely. Yesterday only I had had an overpriced plate in a mall but the taste was nowhere near to our local vendor renowned for his perfection in making this heartthrob recipe! From pregnant ladies having their never ending craving for spicy things to old aunties as if revisiting their youth and from college students to chirpy kids, at any hour one can see people queuing up for chaat and all that stuff.

Some things can never taste good in a formal setting; for instance, I bet you cannot enjoy a D-I-Y gol-gappa kit in a flashy restaurant! A friend told me a few days back that she once paid Rs 85 per plate (5 pieces) for gol-gappa at Dilli-Haat! I was shocked! At Rs 17 per piece, it should be rather called ‘lol gappa’!

Make Up Not Made Up

Today a friend casually remarked that girls who stay prim and proper are often perceived as vixens or high-maintenance-attitude-throwing types. She pointed out that a girl with tidied hair, manicured nails and a slight make-up reflects not only a person who has taken pains to wake up early to ready herself but also as someone who is not casual about her image. I could not agree more. I am reminded of an article I read sometime back about an Indian millionaire who was ridiculed by an American investor for being  obese and that if he could not manage himself how he could be trusted for managing  their investments properly; and that’s not an invalid point! The deeply humiliated millionaire came back into an enviable shape within months and since then has maintained a very healthy lifestyle, setting an example for everyone.

You do not have to look as made up as a bride straight out of a mandap but well fitted clean clothes with a little ironing, properly cut and managed hair, clean nails along with a little make up goes a long way in making good impressions and elevating one’s self confidence. It doesn’t take much time but those few extra minutes can make you confident and happy for sure!

Birthday Bloopers

A few weeks back, I forgot to wish a friend on her birthday and I cannot even describe what an emotional drama she created! She called me up and then after two-three taunts, all of a sudden hung up and then, sent me many longggg emotionally stirring messages hitting straight at my conscience. Accusing me of being an emotionless android and a detached self-centered apology of a human being, she has snapped all ties too.

Honestly, I was more concerned than annoyed. She needs to visit a psychiatric councilor and I believe if someone takes such petty matters to heart, the problem is indeed deep, what others bear are just some tremors.

  1. I just love gol gappas!!! I don't really care about the price as long as I am having them!!! But ya u are right the vendor waalaa gappas are better than the 'tailored fashion expensive' waalaa gappa!!!

Maybe your friend was expecting a call from you and since you didn't she was hurt... And the emotional drama is the least she could do to you, after all you are her friend!!! If we don't throw tantrums at our friends who else will we throw them at??? Bcz at the end of the day only a friend would tolerate them...

    1. Hi Th!nker

yups! I loveeee them too! yes, but Rs 17 per piece is an insane price I think! the vendor waalaa tastes 1000 times better than DIY kits and all.

yes, I simply forgot to wish her but she threw so many tantrums and taunted me so badly that I was concerned about her mental health.

    2. She only threw those tantrums bcz she knew you are her friend and wouldn't feel bad... ;-)

    3. Hi Rupasi

I tried speaking to her many times but she has blocked my number and she always does that so I think enough is enough now

    4. Oh Man!!!! Ok ya I also agree now!!! She needs a psychiatrist!!!
Hahahaha... blocked your number.... hahahaha :D:D:D:D

  2. seriously! even i know few people who react so weirdly just because someone dint wish on their special day. They are just not matured enough to think people might be busy with their work, and even if they don't happen to call it doesn't mean that they did it on purpose.

yes, i agree. I think the problems with such people are far deep and they must seek professional help. Being emotionally imbalanced would create more issues in future

  6. Dear Ankita thank you for stopping by at my blog and leaving behind words that made my day. Okay ' khub jamegee' because i see that apart from writing so well in bits and pieces you are a nature and art lover too.
This one i have thoroughly enjoyed and i agree to all three 'nazariyas' of urs. The first i must share that for our wedding anniv my husband insists on taking me these high end restaurants and we both calmly agree to disagree. i tell him if he wants to see me in a nice sexy dress sitting in a good ambiance then okay but if he wants that we both eat well then it better be where taste rules even if the food is not dressed up and the ambiance is okay.
The second i think these days there is an over indulgence in artificiality meaning too much of botox and body sculpting and stuff like that doing the rounds which in the long run is not good for the healthy mind and body. Besides there is something called the Indian body which should be loved and i don't know how or why every Indian wants to have a Parisian bulimic anoxeric body or for that matter Anglo-Saxon body. Can't we be curvaceous and still look good with just some healthy clean hygienic routine and systematic lifestyle. It can be done only if we want to but no we want to ape the West...
The third this thing about birthdays...hell...another phoren concept...a friend who creates a furore over missing a date well she does need to get facts straight. She needs to shout out loud on Whatts app or Facebook perhaps...trust me...and if u were either on these two u wouldn't have missed it no ways...
But she needs these hollow wishes...send her those belated ones...don't snap ties Ankita cause poor thing she is a victim of time and tides. One day perhaps she will understand the true meaning of friendship.
Apologies if i have spoken lots...but i'm like that...few words just won't do for me.
Yeah and once again thanks a lot...and now i'm off to check ur bits and pieces part 1 if there is a part one...

    1. Hi Shivani

Thanks for the wonderful comment and also for liking the post! I agree!!
Yesterday only I had gol gappas from a vendor and it was an amazing experience in fact we had to wait for our turn! High end places have more style and less substance (generally).

Ya but a little grooming is a must I think, obsession is bad.

Shivani she always does like this, she has made a habit of throwing tantrums

  7. Greatly fond of gol gappas, don't use make-up except on occasions and sometimes for fun (but do believe in being well-groomed), have not much use for birthdays either :) and totally scared of tantrumy friends!

  11. Just this weekend, hubby had a gol gappa craving and after checking out 3 different Indian stores, we were fourth time lucky and managed to get Pudina/mint. that evening we sat in our patio gulping down home-made pani and stuffing ourselves with pani-puri, it was heavenly :)

  14. Street foods are tastier in street only.. The essence of gol gappas are lost if they come packed and you have to eat it all by yourself.. without saying bhaiya sonth zyada daalna.. :P
Grooming is a v essential part.. it is not important that you wear make-up or not.. it's a personal choice.. but nice ironed clothes.. polished boots.. in short a hygienic and clean look.. as we all say first impression is the last.. i recently met a guy who was good looking but smelled bad while he was talking.. i literally don't want to even see him again..
some people are not enough mature to see that forgetting birthdays are not big deal... big deals are else.. ***frustrated people***

exactly, the local flavor cannot be enjoyed at flashy eateries. I say it all the time! I just love khatti-meethi saunth!!

A well groomed person created good impressions that effect his success ion life, there is no denying this fact. Smelly guys are so intolerable..yucks :X

      yup, frustrated souls

  15. I don't have the guts to eat gol gappas locally from the road side shops. But when I go on tour, I drop all the caution aside and savour them!

I used to buy the gol gappas from shops and do the other things at home and eat happily with my sons.

  17. Fitness should be in our culture. People spend money on clothes and accessories and the least on a healthy diet. Last week, one of my friends studying in London said that she prefers to eat anything cheap and splurge her savings on clothes. Because according to her, flashy clothes make a better impression in a foreign country.

Hahha.. seriously! Your friend needs to see a shrink.

    1. Hi Mirage

exactly, people never take fitness and personal grooming seriously. Your friend is living in a big delusion.

haha! yes, I think the same too :P

    2. Gol gappas are forever love and nothing taste better than a gol gappa plate from thela than a resturant. Dessi things have their pleasure and taste when served in dessi ways only :)

The make up post inspired me the most. I read for the first time about the man who took offense and challenged himself and improved! The fact is true, I see students in University daily and I count the hours which they took to look so plastic! Personality matters but it doesn't m you should always be painted like you're in shadi as u already said!
Sadly most of us Girls... just do not understand this...

    3. Hi Ph

Welcome here and thank you for such a wonderful comment :)

You are right, thela- waala has that unique flavor that is always absent in flashy places :)

Yes, a bit of makeup boosts self confidence esp. in girls and good grooming along with a bit makeup can change the personality for better in long run!
