Fish in Net

Traps are always luring and attractive.

I have tried to play with form and style in this piece of abstract work.

I am against fishing as it is animal cruelty and do not endorse it through art in anyway

Discobolos

This is a rendition of a famous artwork named ‘Discobolos’ by the ancient Greek sculptor ‘Myron’. The original was a bronze one that was unfortunately lost. However, an exact Roman copy is still preserved. Greek artists were experts in sculpting movements and muscle tones. The winners of the Olympic Games commissioned their statues from famous artists of that time. This young man must have won a prize in the game of discus throw.

I have intentionally used the black paper as I wanted to recreate the look of ‘old marble’ and display muscle tones that ancient artists so deftly sculpted upon the marble stone. Medium is color-pencil.

I love reading about ancient cultures esp Greece and Egypt and nothing fascinates me more than the ancient art! I hope you will like it.

Decline

Hate crimes are on a steady rise. The communal harmony is declining and hatred is slowly darkening the love communities in India had for each other.

Caution

Acid attacks in India have become a major concern of late. As per ASFI (Acid Survivors and Women Welfare Foundation) there were 80 reported cases of acid attack in 2010 that in 2016 rose to 307, nearly a fourfold rise.
This sketch is dedicated to all brave acid attack survivors.

Child Playing Violin

I have a certain liking for such kids! This child, oblivious of all the frivolities and distractions around, is busy playing her little violin. Art not only channelizes the energy of a child but also keeps him/her away from useless things like video-games, chatting and girlfriends/boyfriends.

Captain Von Trapp

Actor Christopher Plummer as the charismatic Captain Von Trapp of ‘The Sound of Music

This 1965 musical drama is one of my most fav movies and was inspired by a real family of Captain Baron von Trapp, an Austro-Hungarian Navy officer.

Christopher Plummer (born December 13, 1929) is a Canadian actor and is the oldest person ever to win an Academy Award for acting.

Michael Schumacher

Wishing Michael Schumacher a speedy recovery

Michael Schumacher (born 3 January 1969) is a retired German racing driver who raced in Formula One for Benetton and Ferrari. Widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers and regarded by some as the greatest of all time. In December 2013, Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in a skiing accident. He was placed in a medically induced coma for six months until 16 June 2014. Then in September 2014, he was relocated to his home where he continues to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation privately. (Info- Wiki)

This sketch is my first work with ‘Faber Castell Polychromos’, I used ‘Staedtler Luna’ before that. The shades in Polychromos are different than those in Luna. I took me some time to pick ones suitable for skin tones. However, as these are oil based, these blend easily and do not pose the issue of ‘wax bloom’.
